Cultured Pallets
Sohelia Esfahani invites the public to create their own stencils and decorate shipping pallets using various designs. In her installations, Esfahani often incorporates decorated shipping pallets, which metaphorically serve as objects of holding. These pallets are ready to move in-between and cross boundaries of places and cultures by being in a state of permanent transit. Cultured Pallets series are transient installations which grow out of Esfahani’s ongoing process of marking shipping pallets with an email address (culturedpallet@yahoo.com) and a variety of collected motifs and designs. The cultured pallets are then sent back into circulation.

Advection by Robert Seidel
CAFKA - Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area | @_CAFKA | Facebook
Advection consists of several visual études projected on the continuously changing volume of a water curtain. Interconnected with both the circadian rhythm of their natural surroundings as well as the meteorological nuances of seasonal change from autumn to winter – the fixed études alter their density, texture and luminescence over the exhibition time.
This highly organic pictorial frame spawns a contemporary form of moving abstract paintings or associative drawings. The volumetric fountain, the pond reflections and iridescent flares shape a plasmatic spatial system, which is extended by a secondary video projection. This additional layer illuminates the surrounding area, integrating vegetation and the passing visitors into an abstracted mirage-stage.
Here, twining lines change their density within the evolving volume as fragile light patterns float in the bank of fog. The skeletal music composition is augmented by the sound of rippling water and the rushing fountain. Ultimately flickering projection segments and the emerging natural airstreams break the fluctuating formations, making every loop a unique permutation.
Produced by CAFKA and City of Waterloo with the support of Christie and Luther Village on the Park.
In Waterloo Park.

Unwrapped Street Art
THEMUSEUM | @THEMUSEUM | Facebook
The Arab Spring is more than three years old, but its repercussions are still resonating throughout the Middle East. Along with dramatic changes in governmental policy and structure, unexpected interactions have taken place within the arts community -- a melange of Westernized media with traditional elements has emerged. One of the most salient examples of this is the emergence of Egyptian street art, where iconic Egyptian imagery has been contorted to reflect a nation struggling to define its identity. Local street artist Andrew Thom will be exploring this new form in a performance throughout the Summer Lights Festival's duration.
